Keeping You Safe From Fire. Always: The Legacy of Apollo Fire Detectors

Who are Apollo Fire Detectors?

Apollo Fire Detectors specialises in the design and manufacture of high-quality fire detection solutions that protect people from fire in over 100 countries around the world.

We are part of Halma plc, a global FTSE 50 group of life saving technology companies operating in the safety, environmental and healthcare markets. Halma provides innovative solutions to many of the key problems facing the world today.

Our Journey

Our journey began with a clear mission, a commitment to keeping people safe from fire every second of every day. This dedication remains at the core of our ethos, driving us to continually innovate and exceed customer expectations.

Over the years, we have grown to become a global leader in fire safety. This is testament to the talent and dedication of our Apollo family over the years to develop world-class products and innovative solutions for commercial, industrial, real estate and marine applications.

Staying Ahead with State-of-the-Art Testing Facilities

To remain at the forefront of fire detection technology means continuous investment in research and development to pioneer new technologies and enhance existing ones. Our state-of-the-art laboratories are instrumental in testing and validating the efficacy of our products under real-world conditions.

We are also the only UK fire detector manufacturer to have a fire lab and a dedicated team of validation and lab experts to ensure the highest level of complexity and competency is tested. The testing facilities allow us to test a wide variety of detection and include a fire lab, with viewing gallery, 2 Lorenz Tunnels, Conditioning Chambers to measure extreme temperatures, a Shock and Vibration platform and an Anechoic Chamber to measure pressure levels.

We start by testing the response threshold values in a Lorenz tunnel, initially five devices are tested in 8 orientations to find the least favourable position for the product type. Once a full suite of response threshold values has been taken, they will then be split out into various laboratory tests including EMC, Environmental Conditioning, Shock and Vibration and Fire. Fire test samples can consist of up to eight samples and are tested in all available sensitivity modes, with the least sensitive response in their least favourable position to create a worst-case scenario.

To ensure the safety and reliability of our products, we go above and beyond standard requirements when testing a typical smoke detector. Each product is subject to our own additional and rigorous testing, including various dust type tests, protection against insect intrusion, evaluating detectors in extreme temperature and humidity conditions and many more. This comprehensive approach ensures that our products exceed standard requirements and deliver exceptional performance in critical safety scenarios.

Navigating Open Protocols for Customer Flexibility

When it comes to fire safety systems, the choice between open and closed protocol systems is crucial. We recognise the importance of flexibility for our customers. That's why we primarily focus on open protocol systems, which provide users with the freedom to choose maintenance providers independently. This fosters healthy competition among suppliers and ultimately drives value for the end-user.

Open protocol systems offer greater flexibility and freedom of choice. They allow users to select maintenance providers independently, which can lead to cost savings in the long run. Additionally, open protocols facilitate competition among suppliers, driving innovation and enhancing the overall quality of service.

Guaranteeing Product Reliability with Our ‘Life-cycle Guarantee’

Our Product Life-cycle Guarantee supports the recommended working life of Apollo detectors and further endorses our commitment to customers in providing them with reliable, quality products. The warranty covers ten years for detectors, alarm devices, interfaces and call points and five years for detectors containing CO cells, batteries or that are wireless. IP67 Manual Call Points, Beam and Flame detectors and test equipment have a three-year warranty period. We acknowledge the importance of life safety and system integrity and recommends the routine replacement of detectors after 10 years.

Supporting Customers Beyond Installation

We believe in empowering our customers with the knowledge and expertise they need to excel in the industry. That's why we offer a range of educational resources, including online CPD sessions and face-to-face training.
