The Labour Party has confirmed Angela Rayner’s appointment as the new shadow education secretary, following recent resignations.
Becoming the third MP to hold the post in less than a week, Rayner replaces Pat Glass, who resigned on Wednesday having only held the post for two days. Lucy Powell handed in her resignation on Sunday 26 June on a day of mass resignations for Leader Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet.
Rayner, MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, has previously held post as a shadow work and pensions minister, and more recently moved to work with the women and equalities portfolio.
