Glasgow City Council will discuss the possibility of providing free school dinners for all children in Primary 4 during its budgetary discussions.
Currently all children in primaries 1, 2 and 3 have been entitled to a free meal, but after then, many have to pay.
The council is also looking into the feasibility of providing meals during school holidays for those from low-income families, as well as auto-enrolment so that parents of eligible children do not have to actively claim the free meals and grants.
North Lanarkshire Council meanwhile has agreed to pilot a scheme to provide free meals for all eligible children 365 days a year.
The film, ‘The Lunch They Deserve’, seeks to focus the nation on the need for better school food standards before the provision of Free School Meals is extended.
Speaking at the Bett UK Conference, the Education Secretary said the EdTech Testbed will recruit schools and colleges to put the latest tech and AI tools through their paces.
The updated AI safety expectations have details added on how AI tools used in schools must protect children’s mental health, cognitive, emotional and social development
