Calls for British values to be included on school curriculum
EB News: 05/12/2016 - 11:34
Dame Louise Casey has called for British values to be included on the core curriculum on all schools following her review into social integration in Britain.
The Casey Review found that segregation and social exclusion has reached ‘worrying levels’ and makes a number of recommendations for how to bridge divides between people and bind communities together.
A key part of these recommendations is to promote tolerance and cultural understanding among children from a young age.
Casey suggests that the promotion of British laws, history and values within the core curriculum ‘would help build integration, tolerance, citizenship and resilience in our children’.
She argues that more weight should be attached to British values in schools, included a focussed syllabus in developing teaching skills and assessing schools performance.

Nearly two thirds of Initial Teacher Training providers believe that teachers are not currently prepared to meet the government’s ambition to raise the complexity threshold for SEND pupils entering mainstream schools.
England’s councils are warning of a "ticking time bomb" in the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system, with new data showing deficits that could bankrupt local authorities within three years.
