DfE seeks contractor to help schools with climate plans
EB News: 17/04/2023 - 10:50
The Department for Education is looking to procure an outside provider to help schools with their environmental plans.
A national lead provider or consortia is sought to co-ordinate a regional network of environmental sustainability and climate change experts within the education sector.
The provider will identify appropriate experts to help enable individual education settings to develop climate actions plans.
The government said in its Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy last year that by 2025 every education setting would need to nominate a “sustainability lead” to oversee the plans.
The provider will need to help with decarbonisation/energy efficiency, adaptation and resilience, biodiversity/green infrastructure, climate education and green skills and careers.
As such, the network of experts must be drawn from a wide range of careers and occupations (education, academia, industry), in order to provide the technical expertise needed to help education settings own and implement these wide-ranging plans.
The DfE says it is not yet ready to invite bid applications but early notification has been given to commence work.
