EB News: 12/09/2019 - 10:31
The V&A’s new national design challenge for key stage three students has opened for entries, and this year has three star judges: fashion designer Phoebe English, chef and television presenter, Monica Galetti, and Brompton Bicycles COO Paul Williams.
Open for entries until 13 December 2019, finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas in-person to the panel at a special awards day hosted at the V&A, early next year.
The competition categories are:
• GO – How can new approaches to design support the movement of people, things and ideas? (Cars: Accelerating the Modern World)
• EAT – How might we ensure that the way we eat is sustainable, and give more people access to affordable and healthy food? (Food: Bigger than the Plate)
• WEAR – How might we ensure that what we wear is part of building a better world? How can new technologies transform the future of fashion? (Mary Quant)
The challenge is a key part of the museum’s new digital teaching resource hub, V&A Innovate – available for every school in England. Created with teachers and designers, the programme introduces young people to design principles used in industry and in the new Design and Technology (D&T) GCSE, by equipping them with the tools to develop solutions for real-world issues.
A new survey by the British Council has revealed that more than two thirds (67%) of primary school age children say they would like to spend more time at school learning a language.
