Pat Glass appointed as new shadow education secretary, following Powell’s resignation
Pat Glass has been appointed as the new shadows education secretary, following Lucy Powell’s resignation.
Glass is currently MP for North West Durham and has spent her life working in education before being elected to parliament in 2010. Pat has previously held senior positions in local education authorities and was an adviser to the government on education.
Glass has been moved across from shadow Europe minister and also has experience as shadow childcare and early years minister.
The news comes as Powell, along with 15 other shadow cabinet members, have resigned in protest to Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership in the wake of the referendum vote to leave the European Union (EU).
