Damian Hinds is no longer the education secretary under the leadership of New Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
He tweeted: “It has been the greatest privilege to serve as Education Secretary. Thank you to the brilliant team at
@educationgovuk. And thank you to everyone working in education and children's care, for all you do. I look forward to supporting the government from the backbenches.”
The NHAT tweeted in reply: “Thank you for your service as Secretary of State. We have made progress in some important areas in your time, including removing floor and coasting standards, the new Early Careers Framework and of course your support for
@PrimaryFutures. We wish you all the best for the future.”
Geoff Barton, General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, commented: “We would like to thank the outgoing Secretary of State, Damian Hinds, for the constructive way he has worked with us during his time in office. In particular, he deserves great credit for the development of a strategy to improve teacher recruitment and retention, including more support for teachers early in their careers, which we sincerely hope will bear fruit over the coming years and ease the current situation in which schools face very serious teacher shortages."
A new survey by the British Council has revealed that more than two thirds (67%) of primary school age children say they would like to spend more time at school learning a language.
Forty-four per cent of education professionals are unfamiliar with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, otherwise known as Martyn’s Law, according to new research.
