DfE releases data protection tookit for schools

The Department for Education has released a data protection tookit for schools to help them prepare for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into force in May 2018.
All organisations handling personal data, including schools, need to have the right governance measures. This guidance aims to help schools develop policies and processes for data management, from collecting and handling the data through to the ability to respond quickly and appropriately to data breaches.
This document has been released as a Beta version. The DfE is asking schools and other interested parties for feedback on the guidance by June 1. The initial feedback gathered will be used to inform a revised version.
A report from the Digital Poverty Alliance show that while digital tools are now embedded across school routines, access and usability remain deeply uneven.
