The government has announced that the electric vehicle charge point grant for schools will be extended for another year, however, from 1 April 2026, the level of funding will reduce to £2,000 per socket, from £2,500.
The grant enables state-funded education settings, including schools, colleges, nurseries and academies, to get 75% off the cost to buy and install chargepoints, up to £2,000 per socket, and can be used for 40 sockets across all sites.
Launched in March 2024, the funding scheme has seen 3,700 sockets installed to date.
It aims to boost the chargepoint facilities for staff and visitors, and has the potential to help schools generate revenue by making their chargepoints available to the public.
The government has developed a child-friendly version of its Child Poverty Strategy, which can be used by teachers to have important conversations with children about the challenges facing families in poverty.
An extra £40.5 million of funding has been allocated to support essential capital repairs and maintenance across schools, colleges and universities in Wales.
Education Business LIVE 2026 will feature a session from NASBTT on how teacher training programmes can build trainees’ knowledge, attitudes and essential soft skills.
