Former education secretary Damian Hinds returns to DfE

Former education secretary Damian Hinds will return to the Department for Education as a minister of state, announced during Rishi Sunak's recent cabinet reshuffle.
The appointment is not clear what his position will be at this stage, although it is expected he will replace schools minister Nick Gibb, who resigned to pursue a job in the diplomatic service.
Hinds was education secretary between January 2018 and July 2019, but lost his post following the appointment of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and his decision to reshuffle the cabinet.
Hinds was also on the Education Select Committee and previously chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Mobility.
