Nadhim Zahawi committed to exams going ahead

Speaking to Sky News, the education secretary Nadhim Zahawi has made an “absolute commitment” that exams would go ahead this month and during the summer despite, the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
He however that the start of term would be “bumpy” because of staff absences.
He told Sky News: “My absolute commitment is that exams are going ahead both this January and for the summer, for GCSEs and A-levels, but we’re putting in mitigations to make sure that we recognise who have had their education disrupted.”
Vocational and technical exams are scheduled for this month, and Ofqual has said that GCSE, AS and A level exams in England will go ahead in the summer, although adapted to maximise fairness.
