New school cyber-security resources launched
EB News: 06/10/2022 - 10:44
A new range of digital resources have been launched for teachers and pupils to raise awareness of cyber security and the importance of digital safety within educational institutions. The tools, created by Sharp UK, have been developed to coincide with Cyber Security Month and are available for free throughout October to all schools across the UK.
Recognised by countries across the world, Cyber Security Month is an annual awareness campaign that takes place every October. Its purpose is to educate individuals and organisations to practice good cyber hygiene and mitigate the risk of potential breaches.
According to a recent survey by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, nearly half (41%) of primary schools and almost three quarters (70%) of secondary schools were identified as victims of breaches or attacks, compared to just 39% of all UK businesses.
The resources emphasise the importance of raising awareness of good cyber hygiene practices in schools, to better protect them against cyber threats and reinforce how to stay safe online.
Stuart Sykes, Managing Director of Sharp UK said: “As we move towards an increasingly digital future, virtual classrooms and hybrid learning environments will become more commonplace. Unfortunately, this hybrid way of life increases the risk of cyber threats. Educational institutions - and the data they hold - are ripe targets for cyber criminals and other bad actors, and with successful security breaches more often the result of human error than any technological failure, it has never been more important to reinforce what it means to stay safe online and invest in the right IT infrastructure. The resources we have developed aim to help teachers and students brush up on their cyber hygiene for Cyber Security Month, and beyond.”
The resources in the digital packs provided by Sharp UK include quizzes, posters, card games and worksheets for both students and teachers, in addition to an overview of Sharp IT Services.
