Universities and Further Education minister Michelle Donelan has been appointed as the new Education Secretary, in the sudden cabinet reshuffle which saw Nadhim Zahawi promoted to chancellor.
The reshuffle was spurred by resignations over Boris Johnson’s leadership from Rishi Sumak and Savid Javid.
Donelan was appointed universities minister in February 2020. The MP for Chippenham previously served on the education select committee and was briefly children minister.
Zahawi was appointed as education secretary in September 2021, lasting just ten months in the role.
