EB News: 04/09/2019 - 16:08
The Chancellor Sajid Javid has delivered his Spending Round to Parliament, including details on how the government's pledge to increase school spending by £7.1 billion by 2022-23 will be delivered.
Javid has said that next year, the government will ensure that day-to-day funding for every school can rise at least in line with inflation and rising pupil numbers.
Every secondary school will be allocated a minimum of £5,000 for every pupil next year and every primary school will be allocated at least £3750, per pupil, on track to reach £4,000 per pupil the following year.
In addition, teacher’s starting salaries will be able to rise to £30,000 by 2022-23, and £1.5 billion per year will go towards teachers’ pensions.
£700 million will support children and young people with special educational needs next year – an 11% increase compared to last year.
Further education will get a £400 million increase in 16-19 education funding next year.
Sajid Javid said: "Nearly every other department I am announcing today will be funded for just one year. But we recognise the importance of schools being able to plan. So we are announcing today a full three year resource settlement for schools. Levelling up education funding. Improving standards. And giving every young person the same opportunities in life – wherever they live in the country."
A new survey by the British Council has revealed that more than two thirds (67%) of primary school age children say they would like to spend more time at school learning a language.
Forty-four per cent of education professionals are unfamiliar with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, otherwise known as Martyn’s Law, according to new research.
