Who is Disability Rights UK?
Disability Rights UK is the UK’s leading Disabled People's Organisation (DPO), led by, run by, and working for Disabled people.
We work with other DPOs, public bodies, businesses and Government across the UK to influence regional and national change for better rights, accessibility, benefits, quality of life and economic opportunities for Disabled people.
Our Disabled Students Helpline responds to over 1,600 enquiries every year, and our advice and information resources are used by thousands of young Disabled people and those advocating for them.
Disabled Students Helpline
The Disabled Students Helpline provides information and advice on post-16 education and training to Disabled students, apprentices, trainees, parents, carers, and professionals across England. The helpline covers a range of topics, including:
- applying to college, university and apprenticeships
- telling people about your disability
- financial assistance
- adjustments for disabled students and apprentices
- rights in post -16 education and training under the Equality Act 2010
- how to resolve any disagreements.
Free Resources
Disability Rights UK produces a range of free education factsheets and guides, which include information on rights, support within post-16 education and training, funding, careers advice, and more.
Future Ready
Our Future Ready Hub and e-newsletter amplifies the voices of young Disabled people, shares vital information on rights and services, and seeks to shape a future where all young Disabled people can thrive.
Paid opportunities are available for young Disabled people who want to raise their voice on a national platform. We’d love to hear about any issue that matters to them. Email youngvoices@disabilityrightsuk.org to get involved.
Policy and Campaigns
Disability Rights UK uses evidence gathered through advice services, research and engagement with Disabled people to influence policy and contribute to national discussions on education, training and employment. This includes responding to Government consultations and highlighting the barriers faced by Disabled learners to help improve outcomes.
We are currently campaigning against the proposed SEND reforms, as they would cut Disabled pupils’ support and put schools under unnecessary pressure. Find out how you can help us via our Take Action page.
