£50m for more school places and facilities for SEND pupils
The government has announced £50 million funding to be given to councils to improve facilities and create more good school places for children with special educational needs.
The money will go towards creating around 740 more special school places and provide new specialist facilities to support children with complex needs, such as sensory rooms and playgrounds with specialist equipment.
Over half the councils in England will receive more than £225,000 to increase places or improve schools for children with SEND, and every council will receive at least £115,000.
However, the DfE has confirmed it will receive no new money from the Treasury for the scheme but will ring-fence £50 million from a £23 billion capital fund allocated in 2015 to create new school places, Schools Week has reported.
