Jonathan Slater, the Department for Education’s permanent secretary, has said the teaching apprenticeship should be available to schools within the next two years.
Schools with large wage bills must pay an apprenticeship levy from April, which they can claim back.
The apprenticeships will be for teaching and school business management.
Speaking at a Public Accounts Committee, Slater said: “I’m determined that schools have accessible to them a teaching apprentice scheme within the two-year period they get to spend the money.”
Last week, schools were officially confirmed as one of the public sector bodies now required to employ a set number of apprentices each year.
A new survey by the British Council has revealed that more than two thirds (67%) of primary school age children say they would like to spend more time at school learning a language.
Forty-four per cent of education professionals are unfamiliar with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, otherwise known as Martyn’s Law, according to new research.
