Ofqual calls for views of exam officers to improve support

Ofqual is inviting feedback from exams officers to find ways to help support them better.
The exams watchdog would like to hear more about their roles within schools and colleges and the resources they could provide to help them.
Exams Officers or members of school/college staff involved in the running of GCSE, AS and A level exams, are invited to give their views and suggestions.
Marcia Woods, Exams Officer at Brookfield Community School in Chesterfield, said in a blog post: “In most schools and colleges in the country there is one person, or a small team of people, responsible for ensuring students are entered for the right exams and sit those exams at the right time, in the right place.
“Exams Officers must be familiar with a 60+ page manual of rules and regulations on how exam papers are managed and securely stored, how exam rooms are set up, the equipment students are allowed to take in with them and numerous other things to ensure the process is secure and fair to all students.
“Time must be put aside every autumn term to take note of any changes and update school/college policies. On top of this are the jobs of handling queries from teaching colleagues and concerned parents and managing one of the biggest budgets in the school or college.”
The government is running a tender for industry to co-create AI tutoring tools with teachers, with the goal of bringing these tools to a similar level of quality of personalised one to one support.
The Welsh Government has set out the key challenges facing tertiary education in Wales and has launched a call for evidence to help address these challenges.
The film, ‘The Lunch They Deserve’, seeks to focus the nation on the need for better school food standards before the provision of Free School Meals is extended.
