Queen's Speech: school funding promises reiterated

The Queen's Speech to open Parliament did not include any new information on the government's plan's for education, reiterating only that ministers would “increase levels of funding per-pupil in every school” in order to “ensure every child has access to a high-quality education”.

She also repeated a pledge made in the last Queen’s speech in October, that “new laws will require schools, police councils and health authorities to work together to prevent serious crime”.

The Conservatives have said that the schools budget will increase by £7.1 billion by 2022-23, and schools will receive new minimum per-pupil funding rates from next year of £5,000 for secondary schools and £3,800 for secondary schools (rising to £4,000 from 2021-22).
