Council to offer vegan school meals following campaign

West Dunbartonshire Council in Scotland has agreed to provide vegan meals in all its schools, following mum Alexis Kasravi's campaign.

Alexis had petitioned West Dunbartonshire Council for the change since her vegan daughter was in nursery, as they were not providing vegan meals.

Kasravi contacted the Vegan Society who helped her challenge the policy.

Dr Jeanette Rowley, the charity's legal adviser, said: "We are delighted to have been able to help Alexis and Mia."

"All children, regardless of their ethical convictions, should be able to benefit from government-funded schemes; we applaud the school and council for recognising this."

"Veganism is protected under human rights and equality law, which means if a child is eligible for a free school meal, the duty is not to discriminate by providing a vegan option."

Now all schools and nurseries in the area will provide vegan meals.
