The Future Looks Bright for ISS Education
Mark Davis has been named as Managing Director for the newly formed ISS Food Services, which has amalgamated the various food based operations across ISS UK and Ireland. After serving as Managing Director for ISS’ Education sector for 13 years, Mark is keen to get the message out about the new centre for food excellence and his exciting plans for the future.
During his time leading ISS’ Education business, Mark implemented ground-breaking progress in the Education sector, achieving growth and developing the ISS Education brand to be a key player in the market. His focus on people and customers has been the consistent through his success and will continue to be in his new position.
When asked about his view of school meals he is keen to change the popular perception saying that “people who prepare the school meals are more than just dinner ladies slopping food on plates, they are helping children realise their true potential by being well set up for an afternoon of learning.”
Mark has also played an important role in several campaigns and initiatives which existed to improve child health and wellbeing in England. From successfully implementing the Government’s Universal Free School Meals policy in over 500 schools in 2014, to joining the subsequent fight to save the initiative in 2017 – he championed contract caterers, promoting them as a positive force which was more than capable of delivering nutritious, delicious lunches to millions of children across the country.
“Right now I am focusing on creating service concepts designed to make people feel good and be productive, as well as ensuring our employees feel engaged and empowered.” He is focused on working more with purpose and developing how the business can communicate with clients about the impact of food and facilities on employee wellbeing and the ISS brand.
As a leader, Mark is keen to acknowledge that he has been supported by a group of likeminded individuals who share his passion. This has been recognised with two Food Service CATEYS, where only the best of the best lift the accolade.
Their mantra is simply, they love to feed hungry minds! With the simple reasoning that learners of all ages need refueling during a day in the classroom and ISS are there to make sure there's plenty of delicious, home-cooked food ready for eating when the lunch bell rings! For ISS Education, it's very important that they serve freshly prepared, healthy food which tastes great. Quality ingredients are a must and the more British and local produce, the better!
Reaching out to a younger generation, ISS Education explain their offer saying: “As well as being made from top ingredients, our food is fab because it's prepared by our team of well trained, dedicated cooks. In our schools, several of our employees are parents themselves, so they know just how to provide a welcoming and enjoyable lunchtime experience for young learners.”
This is a far cry from the ‘Turkey Twizzlers’ of the past and sets the scene for a future educational catering looks very bright.
