Sun safety education programme returns

Boots Soltan Sun Ready learning programme is back for its second year, which supports primary school teachers in delivering sun safety education.

It is aimed at young people between the ages of five and 11 to help them understand the importance of sun safety, and to help teachers and parents encourage safety habits.

Last year, nearly 3,000 teachers registered with Soltan Sun Ready and 1,000 prize packs were distributed to schools around the country.

Boots Soltan Sun Ready resources include lesson plans, teachers’ guides, student-facing videos and homework activities. Lesson plans are adaptable across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 for classes in Science, PSHE, English and Geography.

With a fun, creative and engaging approach, the materials are easy to fit into lesson plans and activities include drama role plays, science experiments and writing tasks.

This year’s programme will feature a new parent-focused section providing activity ideas, and tools specially designed for schools to engage the wider community in learning about sun safety.

It promotes positive sun safety behaviour while also encouraging an active, outdoor lifestyle and a spirit of exploration.

In June, the Soltan Sun Ready Challenge app will also be launched.

It has been described as an “innovative, fun and engaging tool” which uses uses “augmented reality technology to help teachers highlight the importance of sun safety while encouraging outdoors activity and a spirit of exploration.”
