Scotland college teachers announce strike dates

Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) Further Education Lecturers’ Association have announced more details concerning a planned series of strikes.

The members were already set to go on strike on the 17 March, but has now confirmed two further strikes to take place the following week. The strikes have risen amid a dispute to return national pay bargaining to the education sector.

College lecturers in Scotland are concerned about the one per cent pay limit and difference in wages at different colleges. EIS members claim the salary differences are up to £10,000 per year in some cases. The union is campaigning to enable colleges to join the national pay bargaining set-up.

If the dispute is not settled, the union plans to go on strike three days per week indefinitely from the last week of April onwards.
