Sutton’s secondary schools are the best for GCSE results, according to the latest league tables from the Department for Education.
The tables rank schools according to the percentage of pupils achieving five or more A*-C grade GCSEs, including maths and English.
Final figures reveal 74.7 per cent of pupils in Sutton achieved top grades, more than 1.5 per cent ahead of Kensington and Chelsea, which made the number two spot.
Five Sutton schools are listed among the top 200 state schools in the country.
Councillor Kirsty Jerome, executive member for education and schools at Sutton Council, said: "This is excellent news and confirms something we have known for a long time; that Sutton has some of the very best schools in the country.
"To top the table, ahead of every other local authority area in England, is a real achievement.
