Switching to environmentally friendly office supplies can help reduce your carbon footprint
There are many steps that can be taken to reduce your carbon footprint, ranging from reducing the amount of energy used to heat your building to making sure all equipment that can be turned off at night is. Not all carbon footprint changes need to be expensive or difficult to do, even small simple steps can make an impact. One small change could be to re-think what and how you buy your stationery and general office supplies. In reality, ‘green’ can often mean better and sometimes cheaper. In the case of offices, going green can cut costs, improve efficiency, and create more pleasant – and sometimes more productive – workplaces. Take a look at what stationery products your school or college is using on a regular basis. Are there “green” alternative products out there? Is the paper you are using made from a sustainable source? Are the files you use made from recycled card? Collate your stationery orders together so you are only placing an order once a month or one every two weeks rather than place an order every week. This will help reduce the amount of traffic on the roads as well and reduce the amount of carbon emitted. Recycle, recycle, recycle. Sounds obvious but it is so easily over looked when under pressure or in a hurry. Why not think look for a stationery supplier that can provide recycling services such as printer cartridge recycling. Look for a stationery supplier that not only can provide green stationery but use a company that is acting on being green, for example use a company that is ISO14001 accredited. When buying new furniture and seating look for quality furniture that is durable and will last. It may be a little bit more expensive initially but in the long term it will work out much cheaper for you.
