£450,000 funding for Cumbria school transport services
Money will help region's transport services continue.

£450,000 funding has been announced for Cumbria’s schools, pupils and families after flooding affected schools and transport services.

The majority of the funding will be for transport costs. Damage caused to bridges and roads means costly extra bus services have to be provided to transport children and young people to and from schools.

Minister of State for Schools and Learning Vernon Coaker said: "The announcement of additional funding will make sure that pupils can travel to school safely and with as little disruption to their school day as possible."

"I know that the damage to roads and bridges, particularly in places like Workington and Cockermouth has made it incredibly hard for life to go on as normal for many families."
