Don’t trust your water hygiene to luck
Every school, college and university needs to know the water in its buildings is safe. If you are responsible for building safety, you need to identify sources of risk, prepare a plan for managing the risk, and monitor the scheme.
Impure water causes expensive problems and inconvenience. Of the potential impurities, Legionella is the most serious. If not properly controlled, it can spread rapidly, causing severe damage to health, even death. Particular hazards include old, unused or infrequently used showers, poorly maintained or ageing hot and cold water systems, roof tanks, hidden unused pipework, water features, machine tool coolant systems, spa baths, hose reel and sprinkler systems and emergency eyewashes.
Water-borne pathogens such as Legionella most often enter education facilities through aerosols generated by cooling towers, showers, taps and water features but some 40% of the outbreaks can be attributed to hot and cold water systems, sinks, aerators and toilets as well as fire fighting sprinklers and hose reels.
Legal requirements AquaCare’s total water hygiene services portfolio enables its customers to meet the requirements of HSE ACoP L8 for the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems, and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.

The hot and cold water systems in old - and new - education buildings are complex. Temperature control maintenance alone may not be sufficient for controlling Legionella, suggesting chemical and other water treatments may also be considered. AquaCare offers a progressive efficiency improvement programme to eliminate systemic problems and reduce chemical usage.
